The 14th annual Morningside Lights, a procession of awe-inspiring handmade lanterns floating through Morningside Park to Columbia’s campus, returns this fall with TIMEFRAME 1965, a celebration of the images, icons, and influences of the year 1965. That transformative year—also the year Columbia University's School of the Arts was founded—sparked a wave of experimentation and social consciousness that still fuels contemporary life and art-making. Presented in collaboration with the Friends of Morningside Park, each of the 30+ community-built lanterns will focus on specific images from that time as a reminder of how creative thinkers have always helped to illuminate a path to meet the challenges ahead.
